WHS Hall of Fame
Westbrook High School inducted its first group of honorees into our new Hall of Fame which was established as part of our 50th Anniversary recognition. Olivia Tempesta, Class of 2012, chaired the committee that included Principal Robert Hale, Teachers Jim Crawford and Ken Savage, and alumni Sue Connolloy and Tony Palermo. Special thanks to the Westbrook Foundation for funding the establishment of the WHS Hall of Fame.

| Barbara "Ginger" Reeve (Christensen) - Class of 1963 - Inducted 2010 | ||
| A member of the first class to have gone completely through the Westbrook school system (grades 1 through 12), Ginger Reeve has been a teacher at Daisy Ingraham School for 40 years, served our town as a selectman, and has volunteered countless hours of her time to numerous organizations in Westbrook. | ||
| Sidney J. Holbrook - Class of 1968 - Inducted 2011 | ||

Sidney J. Holbrook has spent the last four decades building an extensive resume of public service and dedication to environmental stewardship. Some highlights of his career include 12 years serving in the Connecticut House of Representatives, 5 years as Governor John Rowland’s Chief of Staff, and serving as the Executive Director of the Greater New Haven Water Pollution Control Authority. In addition to his extensive commitment to public service, Mr. Holbrook has enjoyed success in many business ventures, such as owning and operating Monoflo Septic Tank Company in Westbrook, and has partnered in the founding of Infiltrator Systems, Advanced Precast Concrete and Brainard Bulldozing.

| Tony Palermo - Class of 1970 - Inducted 2011 | ||

A lifelong resident of Westbrook, Tony Palermo has held many positions of service in our town. Tony joined the Westbrook Fire Department and Westbrook Ambulance in 1973, serving as Fire Chief from 1986 to 1990. He held the position of Westbrook Constable and Marine Patrol Officer from 1975 to 2001, also serving 4 years as the Westbrook Harbor Master. Tony was elected to the Board of Selectmen in 1991, remaining in office until 2007. During his tenure, he was elected First Selectman from 2001 to 2005. |

| J. Thomas Hazuka - Class of 1973 - Inducted 2010 | ||
| While at Westbrook High School, Tom Hazuka was a member of the National Honor Society and was named class valedictorian in 1973. After two years with the Peace Corps developing youth programs in Chile, Tom pursued a doctorate in creative writing at the University of Utah. He has authored four books and has been a professor in the English Department at Central Connecticut State University since 1992. | ||

Steve Hallahan has created a reputation for masterful construction, design, and craftsmanship. Over the course of his career, he has supervised the building and renovating of both private residence and commercial properties, thereby establishing a great demand for his talents and enriching the architectural culture of the region. |

| Sarah "Sally" J. Greaves - Class of 1979 - Inducted 2010 | ||
| Sally Greaves began her career as a police officer in Westbrook while simultaneously pursuing a law degree from Quinnipiac University. She has served on several town committees as well as serving terms on the Board of Selectmen and as Westbrook's Town Treasurer. Currently, Sally Greaves is an attorney for the Connecticut Commission on Child Protection and has a private law practice in Westbrook. | ||
| Steven Sparaco - Class of 1979 - Inducted 2010 | ||
| A long-time resident of Westbrook and owner of River-End Landscaping, Steven Sparaco has distinguished himself as a role model and coach in our community. Whether coaching for Little League, Parks and Recreation, or Westbrook Middle School, Steven Sparaco leads by example. With inexhaustable patience, he instills pride and confidence in his players, helping them to realize their own abilities. | ||
| Todd Lawrie - Class of 1980 - Inducted 2010 | ||
| After high school, Todd Lawrie enlisted in the United States Air Force for four years, receiving a nomination for "First Term Airman of the Year" for USAF Europe, before returning to civilian life. He has been a member of Clinton Police Department for 22 years and was recently appointed as Chief of the Clinton Police Department. | ||
| Pamela Gery - Class of 1984 - Inducted 2010 | ||
| Having excelled in sports while in high school, Pamela Gery has spent the last 25 years promoting health and fitness as the Director of North Branford's Parks and Recreation Department and Senior Center. Growing the department from 50 programs to over 200 programs offered annually, she was rewarded with the First Governor's Challenge Fitness Award in May 2008. | ||
| James Connelly - Class of 1986 - Inducted 2011 | ||

Trooper First Class James Connelly has been awarded numerous outstanding service awards throughout his career, including the CT State Police Lifesaving Award in 1999, and three consecutive CT Police Service awards in 2003, 2004, and 2005. His familiar presence and tireless support of the Haddam Killingworth School District over the past several years has recently earned him the Distinguished Friend of Education Award, given to an individual outside the field of education who has made strong contributions to public education. |

| James Schreck - Class of 1986 - Inducted 2011 | ||

Jim Schreck began working at the original Lenny and Joe’s Fish Tale restaurant when he was just 16 years old. Jim, along with his brother, Joe, worked his way up to manager of the Madison location. Eventually the brothers purchased the Madison part of the business, of which Jim later became the sole owner. Jim has built the restaurant into an internationally known destination and one of the most successful seafood restaurants in the state. In addition, he has fostered a strong tradition of participation in and service to the community by providing tours and tastings to preschool and elementary students, employing many high school and college students, and supporting a wide variety of charities via the proceeds from the carousel. |

Brian Dore was an outstanding student who excelled in academics, sports, theater, and choir. Today, Brian is an accomplished opera singer employed by the Theater Dortmund in Germany. He holds a Master of Music degree from the Manhattan School of Music. | |
| Brian J. O'Connor - Class of 1989 - Inducted 2010 | ||

Brian O'Connor pursued a degree in Business Administration and Marketing at the University of Colorado after graduating third in his class from WHS. His interests in history and current events led him into the field of politics, where he was elected to five terms as State Representative for the 35th District of Connecticut. He has served Westbrook well, securing state funds for various programs and infrastructure projects in town. |

| Lon Seidman - Class of 1994 - Inducted 2010 | ||

Known for his dedication and work ethic, Lon Seidman has enjoyed success in public service as well as in professional life. Lon is a partner in the Safety Zone, a company specializing in the sale of safety equipment. He has managed several winning political campaigns at both the state and national levels. Locally, Lon was the youngest member ever elected to the Westbrook Board of Education, and serves as Chairman of the Board of Education in Essex. | |
| Richard D. Blomquist - Class of 1995 - Inducted 2010 | ||

A former valedictorian of Westbrook High School, Richard Blomquist has achieved fame in his profession as a writer. He has received five Emmy Awards for "Outstanding Writing for a Variety, Music, or Comedy Series" for his work on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart. His nonfiction book, "America: A Citizen's Guide to Democracy Inaction" spent 18 weeks at number 1 on the New York Times Best Seller List in 2004. |

| Sarah Nowak - Class of 2000 - Inducted 2010 | ||

After graduation from WHS, Sarah Nowak majored in Physics at M.I.T., receiving the Matthew J. Orloff Award for outstanding Senior thesis. In 2004, she received an N.I.H. systems and integrative biology training grant, and began a fellowship in graduate research sponsored by the National Science Foundation the following year. In 2009, Sarah received her PhD in Biomathematics from UCLA, and secured a position as a Research Associate with the Rand Corporation in Santa Monica. | |
