Superintendent
Dear Visitor,
Thank you for visiting the Westbrook Public Schools website. Please scroll through our pages and links to learn about the programs and services offered to the students of our community. The staff, Westbrook Board of Education members, and I are committed to our district’s mission: to educate, challenge and inspire all those learning within our schools. We are driven by our district Mission and Vision Statements and our District Goals, that ensure we provide learning experiences which meet the needs of every child. We are steadfast in our quest to offer challenging curricula, rigorous and engaging instruction, and to make available activities to fuel the intellectual, creative and athletic potential in our students.
The Town of Westbrook is a quality community of over 6000 residents. Our population swells during the summer when families come to our beautiful beaches and summer activities. The Town Selectmen and various boards work closely with the Board of Education and me to maintain clear communication and provide the necessary support to meet the expectations of the residents of Westbrook. Westbrook has an AA2 bond rating from Moody's Investor Service indicating our strong financial stability. Our schools also collaborate with many community organizations. Particularly noted is the work with Westbrook Youth and Family Services. Nine marriage and family therapy interns from WYFS support students at home and at school as needed. The schools are also an important part of the Westbrook Emergency Management Team. Our schools are prepared as emergency shelters to protect residents should the need arise. The district’s parent notification system helps disseminate critical information to the public.
Westbrook Public Schools are staffed by professionals who have garnered many honors and awards over the years including Connecticut High School Principal of the Year, President of the Connecticut Association of Schools, EMSPAC Outstanding First Year Principal, Connecticut Reading Association Reading Award for Administrators, Chairman of the Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Conference Board, Connecticut Hall of Fame Coach, UConn Early College Experience Award winners, SMART Technology Fellows, NOAO Astronomy Fellow, and many others. Professional development opportunities are an important part of maintaining a skillful staff that uses current research and techniques to guide their practice. Westbrook teachers and support staff attend educational conferences and engage in professional learning to ensure that we are insightful, reflective practitioners.
I am most fortunate to lead Westbrook Public Schools. With a team devoted to educational excellence, and parents and the community as our partners, our children have the perfect combination for a bright future.
Sincerely,
Patricia Charles
Superintendent
